Multilingual support in Driftscape for Web

The presentation of multilingual content in Driftscape for Web is intuitive and easy for users. The Settings menu has a language selector, which changes the localization of the app itself, meaning that both the user interface and the content of the app will be displayed in the selected language. To access the Settings menu, click the ‘3 horizontal bars’ in the upper left corner of the Driftscape for Web home screen. The most relevant language can generally be determined based on a user’s browser settings and set as the default, but the language can also be switched in the Settings menu as shown below: 

Note: If a user is viewing Driftscape in French they will automatically see all content in French. For POIs where no French content has been created, an auto translated version of the content will appear. 

When a user opens Driftscape for Web for the first time in a browser, it will default to the matching language of the browser.

When you open a Point of Interest [POI], a language selector is displayed inside the content:

The initial default language will depend on the language in the Settings menu (as described in the section above). Changing the language in the POI also changes the settings in the main web app menu as well.

The media gallery will show media defined for all languages, as well as media just for that language (if applicable). This typically applies for audio and video that may have separate versions for each language.

Multilingual Support in the Mobile Apps

Similar to Driftscape for Web, users can change the base language in the Settings menu. To access the Settings menu, click the ‘3 horizontal bars’ in the upper left corner:

Choose Settings from the dropdown menu:

Click on the ‘Language Selector’ to reveal a dropdown box offering you choice of languages:

The initial default language for Driftscape will be the matching language in the device settings. And similarly, a ‘Language Selector’ tool is shown in individual POIs:

In the mobile apps, the language selector inside the POI does not change the setting for the app itself. Hence, it is possible to have the user interface (localized view) in one language, but to view the content of a particular POI in a different language.

Notes:

• Save for Offline will save only the language content matching the Setting for the app. The language selector is not displayed inside POIs when viewing saved offline content.

• The social media sharing buttons will use the language selected inside the displayed POI. 

• News that is defined in more than one language will show up properly in Driftscape. Note that an english version of all news items is required, additional languages are optional.

• Background notifications (for POI and news) will display with proper localized text, in either English or French.
