Auto-translation Overview
All English content in the Content Management System (CMS) is automatically translated and available in French. This works across our full product line, both Driftscape for Web and the Driftscape mobile app. This functionality is achieved by utilizing the power of a Google Translation (API) Application Programming Interface behind the scenes to continuously translate content as it is edited and changed in the CMS.
How to Change Language within a POI
For Driftscape users, it’s as simple as opening any Point of Interest (POI) and switching the language selector from ‘English’ to ‘Francais’:
All CMS content is translated automatically. Here are some examples:
How to Change Default Language for the App
The default language for the app can be changed from the app menu (mobile and Driftscape for Web):
For the iOS and Android apps: after clicking on the ‘3 bars’ in top left corner to access the Settings menu, change the Language:
In Driftscape for Web: from the Main Menu (click ‘3 bars’ in top left corner), change the Language:
Auto-translation works in conjunction with our Multilingual Content. If you have created your own translations for POIs, they will be displayed instead of the Auto-translations.
In the CMS, no action is required by Driftscape’s partners and customers to enable Auto-translation. All English content is translated to French whenever you add or edit it (unless you have entered your own French content with our multilingual support).
Additional Auto-translation languages will be added in the near future, if there is a language you would like to see added, please inquire.
Preventing Specific Text from being Auto-translated
Use Case for preventing Auto-translation
In some cases, your POIs may contain text that should not be translated. One example when this might be the case is when a language other than English is used in a portion of your POI. As seen in the example below.
In this example, we do not want the original Kaska phrases to be translated when the POIs is auto-translated to other languages.
How to prevent Auto-translation of specific text
Step 1: View Source Code
Within the “Description” Field of the POI Editor, select “View Source Code”
You will now be able to see the html code for your POIs description.
Step 2: Add Span Tags to prevent translation
Next you will need to edit the html code for your POI by adding span tags around the text that you do not want to be autotranslated.
Before the text add: <span translate=”no”>
After the text add: </span>
When complete you will have something that looks like the example in screenshot below:
<span translate=”no”>This text will not be auto-translated</span>
