Multilingual content Overview

Driftscape fully supports the creation of multilingual content in English, French and Spanish. This means you can have a single POI (point of interest), with the English, French and Spanish versions defined separately.

All app users can enjoy customers' stories auto-translated into French or Spanish via Google Translate. Or you can translate your English content into French or Spanish manually directly in the CMS to customize your own versions.

If you are interested in supporting other languages for your content, please inform your Driftscape representative.

Entering multilingual content in the CMS

After you log in to the Content Management System (CMS), in the top right corner you will find a ‘Language Selector’ tool (which as a default displays as English):

By clicking on this tool, it will reveal an option to click on 'Espanol' to switch all displayed content to Spanish or ‘Français’ to switch all displayed content to French:

If you do not see this ‘Language Selector’ tool, please let your Driftscape representative know and they will  give you access to this functionality (all Driftscape plans include multilingual support).

Multilingual Support for Organization Details

One the ‘Language Selector’ tool has been set to Français (or to Espanol), notice that the user interface of the CMS now displays in French (or in Spanish):

Click on ‘PROPRIÉTÉS ORG’ (or 'PROPIEDADES DE LA ORGANIZACIÓN' in Spanish) to select the Organization Properties:

Select the Pencil Icon under the ‘Éditer’ (or 'Editar' in Spanish) column to choose the organization that you would like to edit:

You can now edit your Organizational details. All language-dependent text fields throughout the CMS have English and French and Spanish versions available for you to change (for example: Organization Name, Organization Descriptions, etc).

Remember to click on ‘RÉVISER’ (or 'ACTUALIZER' in Spanish) at the bottom of the screen to update your information:

To edit the French or Spanish versions, simply edit it within the CMS, with the CMS language selector changed in advance to Français or to Espanol (recall that if previously unchanged, the default language will be set to English). Once you save the POI, change the ‘Language Selector’ tool back to English, click the pencil icon next to your organization name, and you will once again see the English version of it.

Note

  • Not every text field in the CMS has multilingual versions. For example: although the Access Key text is multilingual, the Access Key itself is a value and thus has a single value for all languages.

  • The Organization icons are also standard across all languages.

Multilingual Support for POIs

For Points of Interest (POI), you can similarly customize for the language-dependent content:

Edit your English POI by clicking on the pencil icon next to it.

Enter its French or Spanish version content, and when done remember to click on ‘RÉVISER’ (or 'ACTUALIZER' in Spanish) at the bottom of the screen.

Notice that as you change the ‘Language Selector’ tool, the UUID for a particular POI stays the same. There is only one underlying Point of Interest, with one or more language versions defined for it.

Note

  • While you can choose to NOT create a French or a Spanish version of your POI, creating an English version is mandatory.

  • If you create only an English version, an auto translated version of your POI will be made available in French and in Spanish. If you create a French or Spanish version of your POI, it will override the auto translated French or Spanish content for that POI.

  • If you create a new POI when the ‘Language Selector’ tool is NOT set to English, an English version of the POI is automatically created with empty text fields. For this reason, we recommend that you FIRST create the English version of a POI, and then edit the POI in French or in Spanish afterwards.

Multilingual Media for POIs

Multilingual media is handled differently for Points of Interest. The reason for this is that some media items may be common and shared across languages, while others may need to be unique for each language (such as audio media, for example). Driftscape fully supports both cases.

When you edit the media for a POI, you will see language options at the bottom of the page:

This ‘Language Selector’ tool allows you to define the version of your POI (English or Spanish or French) for which you would like the uploaded image or video to show up for.

Note: The default has no language selected, which means the media item will show up in the gallery for every language version of the POI. If you select both languages, this will have the same effect, but we encourage you to not set those in that way, since new supported languages added in the future will be turned off by default.

To change the language in your captions please ensure that you follow the process explained earlier. That is, switch your language version using the ‘Language Selector’ tool located in the top right menu of the CMS and then edit the caption as per the selected language. If you create only an English caption for your media, an auto translated version of the caption will appear in French and in Spanish. If you enter your own caption in French or in Spanish, it will override the auto translated version.

Multilingual news notices

If your Driftscape package includes news notifications, then you can provide your support representative with unique English and French and Spanish content.

Note: English content is always required, but additional language content is optional. News notifications are not auto translated.
