Offline Mode

Driftscape offline mode helps users explore your destination without the need of internet! 

Following steps guide you on how to save POIs (Points of Interest - places, events and tours) that you wish to see once you are offline:

• Launch the Driftscape app and customize your view by selecting the organizations whose POIs you wish to view in the offline mode, this is done through your app menu - located on the left hand bottom corner. 

  • You can further customize this view by narrowing down the types of POIs (places, events or tours) you wish to have access to 

  • Remember to zoom out, in map view, so as to have all the POIs selected in a single frame. 

  • No more than 500 total POIs (including tour stops and quest stops) can be saved. If more than 100 are selected, a warning is presented before the offlining process begins.

• Next, select Settings menu, gear icon located on the top right hand corner of your app, once the menu is launched, click on the “Offline Storage” button

• A dialog will pop up >  From that dialog, users can tap “Save for Offline Now” and begin saving all the POIs displayed in map mode. The app will then guide the user through next steps

• After starting offline storage, users can return to this dialog to view progress > Upon completion of offline save the user will be notified via a similar dialog in the app.

• Once offlining is complete, the content is stored permanently with the app (i.e. you can terminate and restart the app). Offline storage can be cleared from the dialog when it is complete.

Note: To test offline storage, save some content, return to the launcher, disable your internet, and reopen Driftscape.

Viewing saved POIs once offline:

• When there is no internet connection, you can open any POI (those saved for offline mode from the previous steps), it will display and function normally. If not, an error message is displayed.

• The Category view and Settings dialog now work without an internet connection.

• Some things do not work without an internet connection: 

  • News items, save for offline (hence you cannot clear offline storage unless you have an internet connection), social media sharing, external links.

  • Videos for POIs are removed for offline storage. This is because our videos are streamed from the hosting service, and we cannot copy them (legally or technically).

  • Audio does work for offline storage, since the media is uploaded to our server.

• Internal deeplinks to POIs and organizations will work properly in POI content, as will POI linking.

Note: To activate offline mode, you do have to close and reopen Driftscape (a dialog is presented when the app is launched notifying the user that they are in offline mode).
